Drug Addiction/Recovery Help
Drug addiction is a chronic, progressive disease of the body and psyche. It is characterized by intense cravings, compulsive drug use, risky behaviors, negative consequences, and poor interpersonal relationships. Relapse is common among drug addicts without proper addiciton treatment, which includes relapse prevention education and aftercare planning.

We enjoy weekly fellowship and a formal meeting on the fourth Monday of each month from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. During the meetings, volunteers and ex-inmates share information about our work, our needs, and future plans. We also discuss inspirational materials and new ideas for the ministry. Although our roots are Christian, this is a non-denominational organization. FREE LifeSkills Drug & Violence Prevention Training
The Southwest Kansas Regional Prevention Center offers FREE presenter trainings for the top evidence-based drug and violence prevention program in the country for children in grades three through ten. This training is valued at $195 on the LifeSkills Training website. The Regional Prevention Center offers this training at NO CHARGE because we believe it can make a significant positive difference in the lives of children. Attendees can get 1/2 hour of college credit from Friends University for a fee of $40. Training materials and a certificate of attendance for seven hours are provided at no charge. Becky Upshaw a certified trainer hosts LifeSkills Training Facilitator Workshops at times on the Garden City Community College campus.

FREE Parenting Classes
Kansas Children's Service League will be offering FREE Incredible Years Parent Workshops for parents of children ages 3 to 6, beging September 30, 2011. Sessions will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday mornings at Head Start Center, 2620 N. 8th Street, Garden City, KS.

An Incredible Years Program has been started through Kansas Children's Service League. This is a new evidence based program funded through the LAUNCH project to build the strengths of families and insure children thrive and develop into productive adults. Parents will learn about the power of playing with their children, encouraging good behavior with praise and rewards, setting effective limits for kids, handling misbehavior in ways that are helpful to both them and their child, and teaching kids to make good decisions.
